2017 Poison Prevention Art Contest

More than 60,000 young children end up in emergency departments every year because they get into medicines while a parent or caregiver is not looking. As part of National Poison Prevention Week, March 19-25, 2017, APA is holding it's 6th Annual Poison Prevention Art Contest in an effort to increase medication safety and poison prevention awareness among children. The theme for this year is:

Home Safe Home

The contest is divided into three age categories (K-2nd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, and 6th - 8th grade), and offers a grand prize $50 gift certificate, second place $25 gift certificate and third place $15 gift certificate for each age category. Winners will be eligible to compete in the National Poison Prevention Art Contest. Contest entries should be mailed to Alabama Pharmacy Association, 1211 Carmichael Way, Montgomery, AL 36106 and must be postmarked by Friday, April 21, 2017.

Prizes: 

Grand Prize: $50.00 gift certificate, Artwork entered in National Poison Prevention Poster contest

2017 Art Contest Guidelines:
  • 2017 Theme: HOME SAFE HOME
  • Entries should illustrate a message that homes can and should be made safe from poisonings that can include household products, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications. Messages may be word for word or the wording may be altered as long as the theme remains the same
  • Entries should not include any state or regional logos or symbols. Trademark symbols, company names, or characters are prohibited.
  • Contestants must do all of their own work.
  • Use crayons, acrylics, colored markers, watercolors or colored pencils. 
  • Designs should be on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Entries can be horizontally or vertically oriented.
  • Original art must be submitted. Copies will not be accepted.
  • Clearly print the artist’s name in the lower right-hand corner on the back of the poster.
  • A completed entry form is required for all submissions.

Deadline has been extended!: Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 21, 2017.

Submitted entries to this contest become the property of the Alabama Pharmacy Association and will not be returned. Entry into this contest implies consent and permission for the Alabama Pharmacy Association to reproduce, publish, circulate, display on its website, and/or to use as advertising or for marketing purposes for the Alabama Pharmacy Association. Additional information may be added to the winning artwork such as, Poison Hotline's toll free number, Medication Safety Week Date, artist's first name, APA website. Public recognition information will be in accordance with all Child Protection laws.

APA Poison Prevention Art Contest Toolkit for Pharmacies

The Alabama Pharmacy Association (APA) is holding our 6th Annual Poison Prevention Art Contest to raise awareness about poison prevention and keeping medication out of reach. The purpose of this contest is to engage the community in helping to ensure the safety of children and adults. We need YOUR HELP in promoting this contest state-wide.

Promoting this contest presents a tremendous opportunity for you to connect with your patients and their children. By promoting this art contest, you are encouraging Poison Prevention awareness and connecting with your local community.

APA members and/or pharmacies who refer a Winning Entry will be mentioned in association with the Winning Entry in press releases and given the opportunity to present the Winners with their prizes, if scheduling permits.

Important Contest Reminders:

  • A completed entry form is required for all submissions.
  • Deadline: Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 21, 2017.

2014 Art Contest Winners Gain National Recognition!

 

The Alabama Pharmacy Association (APA) held an Art Contest to raise awareness about poison prevention. The contest was open to Alabama children in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Contest entries were accepted from February 3 until March 21, 2014. APA Winners were announced on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

Winners in each division received gift certificates, were recognized in the Spring 2014 APA Journal and the Grand Prize winners from each category went on to compete in a national competition. The 2014 
theme was: "Children Act Fast, So Do Poisons."

Ange Long of Discovery Middle School, Madison, AL and Ryder Dauchy of Northport Elementary School, Northport, AL, placed in the 2015 National Poison Prevention Poster Contest and their artwork will be published on the annual Poison Prevention Week poster and distributed nationwide. They are also posted on www.poisonprevention.org
