OCTOBER is National Pharmacists Month
“Know Your MEDICINE, Know Your PHARMACIST”
This is the time to recognize the significant contributions to health care and the commitment to patient care by pharmacists in ALL practice settings from around the country. The pharmacist’s role in the health care system is constantly changing. Pharmacy has expanded its role from a profession focusing on preparing and dispensing medications to patients, to one in which pharmacists provide medication therapy management services to maximize the medicine’s effectiveness and patient’s outcome. Many medications interact with certain foods, OTC medicines, and supplements which can cause medications not to work properly and may cause serious side effects. Pharmacists are the general public’s most accessible health care professional, yet many people are unaware of the knowledge they possess.
APhA and APA want to help you promote your profession and get the attention you deserve among your peers, patients and community this October during American Pharmacists Month.
Check out the APA Pharmacists Toolkit below for special activities and events that spotlight pharmacists' contributions toward improving medication use and advancing patient care in all practice settings. Use these ideas throughout October-and all year long-to inspire your own celebrations. Get creative, mix it up and have fun!

Tweet-A-Thon: Pharmacist Helping Patients - Thursday, October 1, 2015
This year APA is joining with other pharmacy organizations and pharmacists around the world in a global tweet-a-thon on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Join us in celebrating pharmacists and their contributions to health care and our communities. On October 1, we want pharmacists to take a moment to tweet about the real things they are doing or have done to help patients, other health professionals, and their communities that day. Participating is easy – simply tweet about an action you took that day to help a patient, a health care professional, your industry, or your community and use the hashtag #Pharmacist.
Need idea on what to tweet? Check out these great suggestions from NCPA!
