Continuing Education for Pharmacists
All pharmacists must complete fifteen (15) hours of approved continuing education every year, three hours of which must be live exposure. A pharmacist with excess hours may carry over and receive credit for twelve (12) hours of continuing education in the succeeding calendar year; however, the hours do not count as live exposure. A pharmacist must receive three (3) hours by live attendance every calendar year.
Continuing Education for Pharmacy Technicians
All pharmacy technicians must complete three (3) hours of approved continuing education every year, one (1) hour of which must be live exposure.
CPE Monitor Service
CPE Monitor, through the collaborative efforts of NABP, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and ACPE providers, allows you to electronically keep track of CPE credits from ACPE-accredited providers. To view and track these credits, you must first set up an NABP e-Profile, obtain your NABP e-Profile ID, and register for CPE Monitor.
You will receive a unique ID after setting up your e-Profile with NABP and registering for CPE Monitor. ACPE-accredited providers have transitioned their systems to CPE Monitor, which means that you will need to provide your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth when you register for CPE or submit a request for credit. Transmission of CPE data is a three-step process:
- APA receives the CPE claim and transmits it to ACPE.
- ACPE transmits the data to NABP.
- NABP displays this information in the CPE Monitor section of your e-Profile.

CE FAQ: Some Common Questions
Q: Am I required to get 15 hours of CE each year or can I get 30 hours anytime within the two year license renewal period?
A: Within your two year renewal period, you must obtain 30 total hours of CE, six of which must be live. It does not matter if those are all received in one of the two years or if you receive some one year and some the next. As long as you have the total amount required by the end of the renewal period, you meet requirements.
Q: If I have more than 30 hours at the end of the renewal period, can I carryover the excess into the next year?
A: No, licensees are not allowed to carryover CE hours into a new renewal period. When you start a new license period, your CE hours start over at zero.
Q: Do these policies apply to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians?
A: Yes, the State Board of Pharmacy recently changed their policy on CE to be the same for both pharmacists and technicians. The only difference is the amount of hours required. Pharmacy technicians must obtain six hours of CE each renewal period, two hours of which must be live.
Q: Where can I look up my CE hours?A: As you know, we began uploading all continuing education (CE) credits to CPE Monitor in January of 2013. CPE Monitor contains all of the CE credit pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive from all ACPE-accredited providers not just APA. To view and track those credits, you must access the CPE Monitor system at www.mycpemonitor.net and login using the email address and password you entered when you requested your NABP e-profile ID. APA must award CE credit from our programs within 60 days of the program, so it is very important that you contact the APA office if you don’t see credit in your profile. We contact individuals following our events if we have records returned from CPE Monitor because the NABP e-profile ID or MMDD (month and day of birth) doesn’t match. If we contact you, we ask that you get back with us as soon as possible to verify your information because we only have 60 days to award credit in the CPE Monitor system.
Q: Who can help if I have trouble logging in to the CPE Monitor system?
A: APA does not have access to the CPE Monitor system other than to upload credit so we are not able to help if you are having issues accessing your account in CPE Monitor.
