Paul Jungnickel, Ph.D., R.Ph., of Auburn Receives the APA Faculty Member of the Year Award

MONTGOMERY, AL - On June 11, 2018 Paul Jungnickel, Ph.D., R.Ph., Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and Professor at Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy (HSOP), received the Alabama Pharmacy Association’s (APA) Faculty Member of the Year Award at APA’s 137th Annual Convention held at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Point Clear, Ala.

This Faculty Member of the Year Award is given in recognition of academic achievement and exceptional leadership of student pharmacists at the local, state and national level. The recipient has provided long-term service and contributions that have benefited APA, has promoted the advancement of student pharmacists within their profession, and has mentored students on the importance of professional development.

"Through his work, he demonstrates a sincere concern for every student at HSOP and is dedicated to making their education and professional experience the best it can be. He serves as an example of leadership and professionalism to HSOP’s students and promotes their involvement in professional organizations,” said APA Executive Director Louise Jones.

Jungnickel received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Oregon State University in 1972. In 1975 he completed a Residency and Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy at the University of Kansas. He went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with emphasis in post-secondary administration in 1993. He joined the faculty of Auburn University in 1997.

He is responsible for oversight and organization of HSOP’s Professional Seminar Series (PSS), which allows students to hear speakers from various aspects of healthcare each week. Dr. Jungnickel has been a member of Alabama Pharmacy Association since 1999.

The Alabama Pharmacy Association is a nonprofit professional organization with over 2,600 members statewide. The APA offers continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and members take a leading role in lobbying for pharmacy at the state and national level. The APA was established in 1881 and is the oldest professional organization for pharmacy in the state. APA members represent all practices of pharmacy and are committed to their profession and their patients.
