In 2019 the Alabama Board of Pharmacy amended rule 680-X-2-.14 (The Role of Technicians in Pharmacies in Alabama) to establish training requirements for all pharmacy technicians receiving their initial registration on or after January 1, 2020.  The requirement does not apply to technicians licensed in Alabama prior to January 1, 2020.

All newly licensed technicians are required to complete a Board-approved training program within the first 6 months after their registration and to submit evidence of completion to the Board within 10 days of completing the program.  Both the pharmacy and the technician should keep proof of the training on file for a period of two years.  The Board may issue a fine of up to $1000 to the pharmacy and revoke the registration of a technician for failure to comply with the new rule
