Alabama Opioid Council Provides Action Plan to Governor

The Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council was established by Governor Kay Ivey in August 2017 with a charge to develop a comprehensive coordinated strategy to combat Alabama's opioid crisis and reduce the number of deaths and other adverse consequences in the state. Several pharmacy stakeholders were appointed to the council by the governor, including APA's Executive Director, Louise Jones.
The council has completed it's action plan and has made a first report to Governor Ivey. The action plan will utilize a four-pronged approach in addressing the crisis, including intervention in areas of prevention, law enforcement and justice systems, treatment, and community response.
